Art feature - Wood Cut Print

Wood print printing is a 'relief' printing technique whereby you continue to carve away at an image, in the meantime, printing different colours on top of each other (after each layer dries) using this wooden block. This print is one I worked on during art school, my only dalliance into wood block printing. It is my favorite print making disciple and I love this print. Currency one left in store!  Here's a link to more of my artwork although i'm not painting much anymore www.libbymourant.com And more on screen printing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_printing

Artist Feature - Norval Morrisseau

We are fortunate enough to have these beautiful signed, original prints from the hand of Ontario born artist, Norval Morrisseau in store. Ojibwa in origin and known as the 'Picasso of the North', Morrisseau used a pictographic style, also known as the 'Woodlands School'. His work is recognized by the thick black outlines and bright colours.  Come and view this wonderful work in person!  Here's some more info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norval_Morrisseau http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/norval-morrisseau/

Art: Artist Focus - Franklin Carmichael, Group of Seven

We have had some fabulous art works enter our store recently including this beautiful (original and signed) print by 'Group of Seven' member, Franklin Carmichael. A devoted family man, Carmichael was unable to travel as much as his colleagues, and often painted close to this cabin, located on  Cranberry Lake , Ontario. He was the youngest member of the Group of Seven and was greatly influenced by Tom Thomson, with whom he shared a studio with in Toronto at one stage.  This print is signed and dated by the artist in pencil, detailing the print number (411/495), the title and artist's signature. This traditional standard of signing ones work is thought to decrease the risk of fraud.  Here is a some lovely detail from the piece. See it for yourself in store!
