Kids Kitchen - Home Made Pizza

Home made Pizza is such a quick, easy and simple way to prepare a home cooked meal and a great introduction for kids to the kitchen. I use store-bought dough but the kids can help with spreading the tomato sauce and adding toppings. It's a great way to get them involved, give them independence and teach some basic cooking skills. I transfer the (hot) dough onto the kitchen counter using parchment to avoid contact with the hot metal cooking tray. It's a good way to reaffirm safety in the kitchen, especially around hot foods and the oven. Magnus liked to nibble the toppings pre-oven... another potential/ good teaching moment. I tend to make a huge batch of marinara prior to the event and add goodies like bell pepper, carrot and sometimes even zucchini (then blend) for added nutritional benefit.

Art: Artist focus - Murray Clerkson

We have a fantastic selection of artworks in Black Pearl Emporium. From oils to water-colours, prints and sculpture, we enjoy art and love it passing through our store. This summer, we happened upon these two stunning works from the local art hero, Murray Clerkson. Clerkson was a prolific artist as well as life long advocate for artists and the art community. He ran a furniture store and was an active supporter of the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts in Collingwood. As part of his legacy, an annual award is offered to an outstanding, up and coming local artist from the area. His works are expressive, rich in colour and evocative of the local environment we live in. A lucky find for someone familiar with the artist or who merely enjoys this fabulous work. Local Adventures: Carly Patterson Trail

Carly Patterson trail is an approximately 11 km loop that meanders throughout the west end of Wasaga Beach. Never straying too far into the wilderness, this trail is perfect for almost all walking/ hiking abilities. There are countless entry points along the trail and it's very well maintained after storm damage. The deep snow we are currently experiencing makes it harder with the double stroller, but with snow shoes, you could enjoy a delightful hike through the woods. Local Art - Blue Mountain Pottery

Blue Mountain Pottery was a local company, now closed, but the works are very well known throughout Canada. The celebrated design features a familiar glaze, using light and dark colours, most famously green but also in reds, browns and yellow hues.
